- Amnesty
accuse Israel d'avoir pris les civils pour cible au Liban
Israel/Lebanon:
Evidence indicates deliberate destruction of civilian
infrastructure
Amnesty 23/08/06
"Amnesty International today published findings that
point to an Israeli policy of deliberate destruction of
Lebanese civilian infrastructure, which included war crimes,
during the recent conflict.
The organization's latest publication shows how Israel's
destruction of thousands of homes, and strikes on numerous
bridges and roads as well as water and fuel storage plants,
was an integral part of Israel's military strategy in Lebanon,
rather than “collateral damage” resulting from the lawful
targeting of military objectives.
The report reinforces the case for an urgent, comprehensive
and independent UN inquiry into grave violations of
international humanitarian law committed by both Hizbullah and
Israel during their month-long conflict..."

Baath party official: Lebanon war proves
'resistance' against Israel works
WND 14/08/06
"Following what it views as a Hezbollah victory against
the Jewish state, Syria is forming its own Hezbollah-like
guerrilla organization to fight Israel in hopes of "liberating"
the Golan Heights, according to a report aired yesterday on
state-run Iranian television.
Last week, WorldNetDaily
broke the story Syria is in the process of forming what an
official from Syrian President Bashar Assad's Baath Party
called the Front for the Liberation of the Golan Heights, a
new "resistance" group that models itself after
Hezbollah.
The official told WND the Front will attempt attacks to force
Israel from the Golan Heights, strategic mountainous territory
captured by the Jewish state after Syria used the terrain to
attack Israel in 1967 and again in 1973. The Heights borders
Israel, Syria and Lebanon and is claimed by Damascus.
Al-Alam Iranian television yesterday featured an interview
with a man who identified himself as the leader of the new
Front for the Liberation of the Golan Heights. The man, whose
features were blocked out, said his new group consists of
"hundreds" of fighters who are currently training
for guerilla-like raids against Israeli positions in and near
the Golan. He claimed the Front has opened several training
camps inside Syria.
Last week, the Baath party official, speaking on condition of
anonymity, told WND Syria learned from Hezbollah's military
campaign against Israel the past month that "fighting"
is more effective than peace negotiations with regard to
gaining territory. He said Syria's new guerilla force would be
trained by Hezbollah leaders.
"Syria is very serious about establishing this new
guerilla force," the official said..."

- La
Maison Blanche envisagerait des "alternatives
autres que la démocratie" en Irak
NYT
Hits Home Run on Iraq
Robert Dreyfuss 17/08/06
"Those who scoff at the mainstream media will have
trouble explaining the page 1 story in the Times today,
a blockbuster expose. And, it saves its biggest punch for the
end. I won’t do that. Here it is:
Some
outside experts who have recently visited the White House
said Bush administration officials were beginning to plan
for the possibility that Iraq’s democratically elected
government might not survive.
“Senior administration officials have acknowledged to me
that they are considering alternatives other than democracy,”
said one military affairs expert who received an Iraq
briefing at the White House last month and agreed to speak
only on condition of anonymity.
Get
that? “Considering alternatives other than democracy.”
That can mean a lot of things, and I’d like to see some
fairly intensive follow-up. Does that mean that the United
States is thinking about a coup d’etat in Iraq? If so, by
whom? There has been a lot of chatter in Baghdad over the past
several months about a coup, usually said to be plotted by
disaffected Sunnis. There has also been talk of a national
unity-type government by fiat, sort of a collective coup, but
who knows what that might mean..."

Wants To Test Human Implantable RFID On Military

"VeriChip is pitching its human
implantable RFID chips to the U.S. military..."
"...The system relies on an implant the size of a grain
of rice, which VeriChip
claims has an encrypted 16-digit identification number.
Philbin said only proprietary RFID readers can decipher the
number, which is then entered into a secure
database. A login name and password are required to access
the database on a secure Web site, Philbin said, adding that
the system is more secure and more effective than things
people normally carry in their wallets..."
