Important Statement Calling for Demanding the Rights of the Majority in
Iraq" ]
The office of the religious marj'iya, the Grand Ayatollah Imam Al-Sayid
Sadiq al-Husayni al-Shirazi (may his shadow persist), has issued an
important statement demanding the rights of the majority in Iraq. The text
of the statement:
"In the Name of Allah the Merciful, the Compassionate
Thanks to Allah the God of all creatures, and prayers and peace upon
Muhammad and his pious kin, and Allah's curse on all their enemies.
The tragic conditions that prevailed in Iraq throughout the past decades,
and the consequences that we see now, are but the result of irresponsible
practices and accumulating mistakes. Among the worst of these mistakes:
compromising on the rights of the majority on the eve of the founding of
the Iraqi State in the last century, under glamorous clichés, even though
the sacred Shari'a and the concepts of democracy uphold protection for the
rights of the majority.
It is regrettable that we should see today the beginnings of compromise on
the rights of the majority, also under the cover of these same clichés or
similar ones.
In warning about repeating the previous experiences another timeeven
though a believer is not supposed to be bitten from the same hole twice,
according to the
honorable Hadith [of the Prophet]we call for protecting
the rights of the majority and the necessity that the President of the
Republic and the Prime Minister should be from the majority, and the same
goes for other positionsin accordance with their actual percentageand for
categorically rejecting anything else.
The open-eyed Iraqi people are not deceived by what is being said about
the post of the President of the Republic being an honorary position,
because this is the same as the trick that succeeded at the time of the
founding of the Iraqi State in the last century and that led to such gross
injustices over more than 80 years.

It is evident that no quarter whatsoever has the right to waive the rights
of the majority because this would be waiving something that is a
possession of the entire nation.
We call upon the proud Iraqi people to undertake their religious and
humanitarian responsibility, through all peaceful means, and to seriously
and assiduously demand that the President of the Republic and the Prime
Minister should be from the majority, and the same applies to other
postsin accordance with their actual percentageand categorically rejecting
anything else.
The people of learning and universities and the intellectuals should
shoulder their religious duties and their historic responsibilities by
educating the people and teaching them about matters of their religion and
political and temporal issues. The honorable Hadith says "Those who
know the times are not attacked by confusion".
Everybody should also direct prayers to Allah the Almighty to fix matters.
The Almighty said: "Say my God would not care about you if it had not
been for your prayers". They should plead to the infallible Muhammad
and his pious chosen ones, Allah's prayers on all of them, especially our
Lord the Imam al-Mahdi may Allah speed his honorable salvation to remove
misfortunes and dissipate tragedies and injustices.
Allah is the Savior, and He is our support and our best advocate, and
there is no power and no strength except through Allah the Glorious, the
Almighty.
